Biology : We Allow Genetic Engineering/Cloning

We allow genetic engineering/cloning

Genetic Engineering is the process of adding new DNA to an organism. This process change one base pair and delete the whole region of DNA or it can be another copying of gene. The advantage of genetic engineering are another way for treatment from the diseases and illness, has the ability to increase genetic diversity as produce variant alleles that can be implanted to other species. Today, genetic engineering is developed very fast and I think that we should allow genetic engineering. There are some people who think that genetic engineering should be allow. Marcy Darnovsky said that "Genetic modification has been exploding in the scientific scene". Next, “ The press has dubbed such brave new progeny ‘designer babies’ or ‘genetically modified humans’” said by Eric Landers. There are some opinion that genetic engineering is dangerous like this opinion "Genetic modification of children was recently the stuff of science fiction...But now, with new technology, the fantasy could become reality. Once the process begins, there will be no going back. This is a line we must not cross."

We Ban Nuclear Power

Nuclear Power is the nuclear reaction that release a nuclear energy to generate heat. Then it used steam turbines to produce electricity while nuclear power produce electricity, it also create radioactive waste which is hazardous. Moreover, nuclear power is also have a nuclear radiation that can create kill people or create cancer. Next, it destroy the aquatic life, impact human life and it is non-renewable. We can see that nuclear is very harmful, so we should ban on building nuclear power plant or producing nuclear power. Some scientist think that nuclear power shouldn’t be produce by many factors. He Zuoxiu which is a leading Chinese scientist, says that “country is not investing enough in safety controls after lifting of post-Fukushima disaster reactor ban”. It means that people still cannot control the nuclear power when it leak or having problem. “After what was, for me anyway, an unimaginable disaster in Fukushima, we have had to reconsider the role of nuclear energy,” said by Angela Merkel a physicist by training and qualified nuclear power supporter. Mostly, the situation about nuclear power that is popular is in the Fukushima, Japan. It make lots of people think that nuclear power are dangerous and it should be banned.

Fruit Batteries

In Chemistry Class, I made an experiment that used fruit to find voltage and current.


  • Fruits and Vegetables : Orange, Apple, Yellow Apple, Lime

  • It is also to find out which fruits give the highest voltage outputs.
  • It is also to find out if the separation of the electrodes affects the voltage output.
  • It is also to find out the voltages given off by different pairs of electrode materials.
  • It is also to examine the voltage outputs when the electrodes are connected in series
  • It is also to find the amperage output of different pairs of electrodes.
  •  It will also examine whether the depth the electrode is inserted into the fruit affects different combinations of electrodes and fruits.

Roll the fruit a little to make it a little juicier in the inside. Insert one electrode material into the juicy part of the fruit. Insert a second electrode into the juicy part of the fruit, but not so the two electrodes touch.

Voltage measurements

Set the Multimeter so that it is measuring DCV (Direct Current Voltages). The 200m setting will give voltage readings up to 2.000 volts. If the readings are too high or too low, just change the dial to an appropriate setting. Since it may be hard to maintain a solid contact with the pointed Multimeter probes, it might be better if you use a pair of alligator clip leads and attach one side to the end of the pointed probe and clip the other end of the lead to the electrode. If you get a negative voltage reading, reverse the clips on the electrodes. The red lead goes to the anode of the fruit battery and the black lead goes to the cathode.

Current measurements:

When making current or amperage measurements, turn the dial on the Multimeter to DCA (Direct Current Amperage) and set the dial at the range setting most appropriate for the range of current readings you are experiencing. The 200 μ is the most sensitive, which means that it will record the smallest currents while the 200 m is the range for the largest currents. As you collect data, be sure to identify the fruit, the cathode material, the anode material, and the voltage that it reads so you can identify which experiment you were conducting.

Other Questions:

o Does the insertion depth of the electrodes affect the voltage and/or current?
o Does the angle of insertion of the electrodes affect the voltage and/or current?
o How does having the electrodes touch above (or inside) the fruit affect the voltage and/or current?
o Using alligator clip leads, make a series set of fruit cells and see what maximum voltage you can get.
o Using alligator clip leads, make a parallel set of fruit cells and determine what the largest current you can get is.

Multicolored Electrolysis

In  my chemistry class, I made multicolored electrolysis lab which is really excited.


  • Petri dish
  • Universal Indicator
  • Sodium Chloride
  • NaCl
  • Small Amount of 9 Volts Battery
  • Electrode Wires with Alligator Clips (Preferable Red and Black
  1. Two pencils sharpened at both ends, or two paper clips distilled water—take pictures.
  2. Fill a petri dish with distilled water.
  3. Add a small amount of salt and stir until dissolved. —take pictures
  4. Add enough universal indicator to give a rich green color —take pictures.
  5. Attach each of the wire alligator clips to one end of each pencil lead. Attach the other ends of the electrodes to the battery poles, the red wire to the positive pole, the black wire to the negative pole. Turn the projector on.
  6. As electrolysis progresses, color changes will begin to occur.
  7. Place a niobium magnet in the middle and discuss what happens.


1. Why is the universal indicator green when you first add it?
Answer : Because it is neutral.

2. Why can we use the pencils to run a charge.
Answer: Pencils is lead and lead can conduct electricity.

3. What is the color at the cathode?
Answer: It turn to purple and having bubbles.
4. What is the color at the anode?
Answer: It is clear color.

5. What happens when you place the niobium magnet? Why?
Answer: The direction of hydrogen gas that release is changed.

6. What is the equation for the electrolysis of water? Without e and volts
Answer: H+(aq) + 2e → H2(g)

7. Why can we dump the solution down the drain?
Answer: Because this solution is neutral, so, it will not dangerous when we dump the solution into the drain.
